| Despite the fact Phil Taylor has won 13 world titles, John Lowe is the only player to have been world champion in three different decades. He was the arch-rival of Eric Bristow during their heyday for they had very different personalities – whereas Bristow was flamboyant, extrovert and arrogant, Lowe was quiet, reserved and understated. He also achieved the first ever televised nine-dart finish during the 1984 World Matchplay, earning £102,000 for the feat. His unbroken run of 27 World Championship appearances from 1978 to 2004 is the longest in the sport’s history. |
