Unexposed Cesarewitch hope Pallisator catching eye
There are few trainers in the business shrewder than Sir Mark Prescott and punters have taken note of the presence of his unexposed Pallisator, now vying for favouritism ahead of the feature Betfred Cesarewitch Handicap on Saturday afternoon.
A past master at placing his horses to run up sequences in handicap company, Prescott has been very patient with Pallisator, a four-year-old son of the 2005 Derby winner Motivator out of Ela Athena, six times placed in Group 1 company around the world.
He clearly has had his training issues after ending last term with a hat-trick of wins and was not seen until returning to the fray five weeks ago when the long-striding gelding ran a fine race to finish a staying-on third to Platinum in the valuable Betfred 'Goals Galore' Old Borough Cup Handicap at Haydock on September 7.
Running on well inside the final furlong of that 14-furlong event without ever quite looking as if he was going to reach the leader, many observers reckon the extra half-mile of the Cesarewitch should play very much to the strengths of Prescott's candidate, who will also be helped by the forecast rain that is set to ease the ground at HQ.
Currently the 8/1 joint-favourite alongside Tiger Cliff in the 36-runner cavalry charge that crosses two counties, it's also worth noting that Pallisator remains engaged in next weekend's Group 3 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup, an apparent indication of just how highly he is regarded by connections.
